SINCRAIU
The area between Huedin and Cluj is known to Hungarians as Kalotaszeg. It's quite remarkable of geographical, historical and mainly ethnographic point of view.
This is a particular place where authentic Hungarian culture has survived uncorrupted. This zone includes 40 villages. The popular tradition is still alive here, and the population is still wearing its wonderful folk costumes. The local embroidery is particularly famous.
Sîncraiu (
Kalotaszentkirály in Hungarian) is one of the most beautiful villages of this area, built up on the borders of the Calata river, at about 6Kms from Huedin. The surrounding mountains are dominated by the Vladeasa peak (1836m). The variety of the landscape - canyons, gorges, caves, waterfalls and forests - offer travelers walks and hiking opportunities. The seven artificial lakes are expecting for the fishermen, divers and the lovers of water sports.
Sîncraiu was mentioned for the first time in a document dated 1288, and it's church has been built in the 13th century.
The village is also famous due to its excellent craftsmen: carpenters, joiners, furriers and bricklayers. Nowadays, the village has a population of about 2000 inhabitants, out of whom about 90% are Hungarians.
From here, you may enjoy the one day trips to the Belis-Fantanele lake, to the place called "Pietrele Albe (the White Stones) a limestone steep, to the waterfalls from Rachitele or to the Sequoia trees from the hill Dealul Domnului (Lord's Hill), in the neighborhood of the village Sacuieu.
At last but not at least, guesthouses with kind hosts welcome you to be your guest. Try them, and we are sure you won't regret it!

At the end, we are just wishing you
